English, circa 1890-1900.
Boxed ornamental trowels were commemorative gifts presented at “laying of the cornerstone” ceremonies for public and/or important buildings. Often they were engraved with the dates and details of the building and the officials involved.
This trowel is without engraving and suitable for your next cornerstone event!
The trowel is in excellent condition, with some wear to the box, wear consistent with age and use.
The trowel is 11 7/8” (30cm) long.
The box is 13 3/4” (35cm) by 4 3/8” ( 11.1cm), 2 1/4” (5.7cm) high.
