Brass edged hardwood campaign style box, labelled S. Mordan & Co., London.

English 19th century.

The cover has an inlaid brass cartouche with the Latin motto: 

“Virtus Mille Scuta“

which translates to:

“Virtue is a thousand shields”

 

13” (33cm) by 9 1/2” (24.1cm), 6” (15.2cm) high.
