French 950 Fine Silver Basin

Ornate 950 Fine Silver basin, French circa 1879-1893.

The rim is decorated with 3 dimensional applied floral borders, below which is a wide engraved scrolling band and a second wider band of finely engraved ribbing with stylized 4 petal florets.

The basin bears the trademark of Jean Lucien Ferry (born 1855) which is an impressed diamond shape bearing the word "Ferry", a 5 pointed star above and a wheel beneath. Ferry's workshop produced from 1878 until he sold his business in 1893.  The basin has the French export mark introduced in 1879; that of the god Mercury with the number 1 at his chin.
