Dugan Art Glass vase Venetian Frit finish in a double gourd shape.  Dugan produced these one of a kind art glass vases and bowls, introduced circa 1905/06.  The pattern and colour is referred to as Venetian Opal Frit (and occasionally “Japanese Frit”) as it was inspired by fine Venini Murano glass work.  The “frit” finish is created by rolling the vase in tiny crushed glass fragments, in this case an opalescent white and a golden amber colour within vertical striping.  It creates the effect of Venini glass with internal twisted coloured glass canes.  The company was established as Dugan Glass Company in 1904 in Indiana, Pennsylvania; the name evolving into the Dugan-Diamond Glass Company in 1913, in business until 1931.
