Edwardian era sterling gilt anointing spoons * in the original presentation box.

As the spoons are hallmarked for London 1902 the boxed set would have been made as a luxury souvenir of Edward VII’s coronation.  The silversmith firm is James Wakely & Frank Clarke Wheeler of Hatton Garden, London, retailed by Hall & Co. of Manchester, England.

The spoons are 10” (25.4cm) long.

The box is 12” (30.5cm) by 5 1/2” (14cm), 1 3/4” (4.5cm) high.

* Sterling gilt is gold plated sterling silver.

Anointing spoons are part of English coronation regalia and have been in continuous use since the 12th century.  These spoons are authentic reproductions in size, style and quality to the existing anointing spoon that is housed in the Tower of London.
