Elegant Edwardian sterling silver 5 light candelabra, hallmarked Sheffield 1909. From the silversmith Hawksworth, Eyre & Co. Ltd. of Rockingham Street, Sheffield, England *. The candelabra is designed in the manner of late eighteenth century Georgian era silver, with a gently fluted tapered central column, rising from an almost oval base; the shape of which is repeated in the junction of the branches and the original bobeches. The base is monogrammed with the letter “D” in Old English font and all of the component pieces are hallmarked independently. 19 1/2” (49.5cm) high, central column/candlestick only 11 1/2” (29.3cm) high. 16 1/4 (41.4cm) by 15” (38.1cm) diameter of the branches at the widest. * The Hawksworth, Eyre & Co. Ltd. trademark was registered in 1833 by Charles Hawksworth and John Eyre. The partnerships evolved through a century, until being absorbed into Ellis & Co. (a subsidiary of Barker Brothers Ltd. of Birmingham) in 1932. | |
