Antique English sterling silver notepad and pencil, hallmarked London 1900.  The notepad was made by the silversmith firm of G H James & Co (George Henry James) of Newgate London EC, trademark registered 1880-1937.  The English registration number 207899 is located inside / under the paper pad, dating the original design to 1893.  The notepad was gifted as a Christmas present in 1942, engraved:
