Product Description | |
Monumental hand blown goblet, with a large cup shape bowl, hand decorated with a copper wheel engraved scene of a stagecoach pulled by three pairs of horses. Sitting on a hollow waisted stem with triple collar rings at the top and bottom, on a circular foot with a rough pontil, very heavy. English 19th century. Normal age related wear to the base. The stagecoach is identified as “London to Bath”. Bath is 100 miles west of London, and is famous for thermal hot springs, the only mineral springs of the kind in England. Public baths built in the Roman period were rediscovered in the Georgian era and it was believed that the waters were restorative and healing. This oversized goblet would have been made for the tourist trade for Londoners coming to Bath to “take the waters”. A unique goblet for a serious glass collector! 12” (30.5cm) high, 7 3/4” (19.6cm) diameter at the rim. |
