Delft style faience figural double salt dish, of a double sided maiden holding up two salt cellar/bowls, circa 1900-1920.  Her skirt portrays a heraldic crest on one side and a floral design on the reverse.  The date 1792 is painted at the base on one side, perhaps commemorating the beginning of the French Revolutionary Wars of 1792-1802.

The painted conjoined “AR” is the mark of Alfred Renoleau (1854-1930) born in Mansle, France.   Renoleau set up his potttery workshop in 1891 in Angouleme in the south west of France.  He was joined in business in 1900 by his nephew Joseph Roullet Renoleau who continued production after  Alfred’s death.

Minor chips and crazing, wear consistent with age and use.

7” (17.8cm) high, 6” (15.3cm) wide, 3 3/4” (9.5cm) deep.
