Handsome sterling silver water pitcher, made by Frank W. Smith Co Inc., of Gardner Mass., circa 1900.  Smith apprenticed under his uncle William B. Durgin, opening his own shop in 1886 and his own factory in 1892.  

This handsome pitcher is of a simple form, with a heavy gadrooned rim, an elaborate “S” scroll handle and raised on ornate claw feet.  Monogrammed on one side only, “W” in Old English font.  *

The bottom is marked with Smith’s trademark, a rampant lion on a crescent moon that is super imposed on the letter S.  The pitcher is also impressed marked STERLING and 1122, likely a design number.
