George III Scottish sterling silver ewer, hallmarked for Edinburgh 1807.  The silversmith was George McHattie who was producing fine silver items between 1806 and 1825.

The central part of the body is beautifully decorated with repousse and engraving.  The central cartouche is crested with A Hand Couped in Fess (a hand cut off above a horizontal band, the family blazon for the Hogg/Hog family) above the Latin motto “Dat Gloria Vires” translates to “A Good Name Brings Strength”.

12” (30.5cm) high, 8” (20.3cm) across the spout to handle.
