Period Georgian sterling silver tankard, English hallmarked for London 1796.  The silversmith’s mark is partially rubbed, likely CC, GG, or a combination of the two.

The tapered cylindrical body is on a molded foot with an S scroll handle and reticulated thumb guard.  Engraved on the handle I over I * M
