| Product Description | |
Georgian inspired three piece tea set, English hallmarks for Sheffield 1928. Made by the silversmith Gladwin Ltd. of Rockingham Street, England, in business circa 1923-51. The set emulates tea pot designs of circa 1790-1800. The tea pot is a round bulbous form on a raised pedestal foot with bead trim at the rim and foot and an engraved banner that is reminiscent of Georgian era bright cut engraving. Engraved on one side with an Old English font “L” and on the reverse with a crest of a raised arm clutching a key. * The set has a few very minor dents, otherwise substantially in good condition. The teapot is 9” (22.8cm) high at the finial and 10 1/2” (26.7cm) across the spout to handle. 1022.7 grams total weight. * The arm is a cubit, dexter arm (cubit meaning showing from the elbow only and dexter meaning the right arm). In heraldry a raised arm holding a key represents guardianship, authority or specialized knowledge. It can also represent religious authority, such as Saint Peter holding the “Keys to Heaven”. | |
