Jugendstil / Art Nouveau 800 Fine Silver bread tray, Germany, early 20th century. The elegantly simple tray has just one design flourish, a panel of four petaled flowers on either side of the rim. The bottom of the tray has the impressed marks of a crescent moon and crown 800; the German state mark for 800 Fine Silver, in use since 1888. The maker’s mark WTB is that if Wilhelm T. Binder, established in 1868 in Schwabisch Gmund, in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg. The five digit number 16565 is Binder’s design pattern number. 15” (38.1cm) by 8 1/4” (21cm), 2 1/2” high at the handles. 362.3 grams.
