Edwardian English sterling silver box with cedar lining. A handsome box for a desk or dressing table. Perfect storage for your favourite wristwatches, or ropes of pearls? Hallmarked for London 1907, made by the prestigious firm of Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd. of 112 Regent Street, London. The company was established in 1880 and amalgamated into Garrard & Co in 1952. This box has a further identification in gold lettering stamped into the leather bottom “By Appointment To H.M. The King” (King Edward VII). The elegantly simple box has a slightly domed cover, monogrammed in Old English font, possibly A.H.H. (A Happy Husband?) The interior of the lid has the original gold washed finish. The box is in good condition with very minor dents; wear consistent with age and use. 8” (20.3cm) by 3 3/4” (9.5cm), 2 1/4” (5.7cm) high. |
