Edwardian era sterling silver golf trophy, made by Gorham Manufacturing Company of Providence, RI. The trophy is designed as a tyg (tig), a medieval shape of drinking vessel with three handles. The trophy cup has the Gorham date cypher (a horseshoe) for 1905. The cup was presented by the Hobkirk Inn to F.C. Ogilvie in 1906. Engraved: HOBKIRK - INN - CUP FOR WINNERS OF SATURDAY HANDICAPS WON BY F.C. Ogilvie. - 1906 - 4 3/4” (12cm) high, 5 3/4” (14.6cm) at the widest diameter. 317.1 grams. * Hobkirk Inn was established in 1882 in Camden, SC as a winter resort for tourists from northern New England and Canada. Sporting amenities included riding, golf and tennis. Hobkirk Inn is mentioned as one of the winter destinations for Canadian golfers to stay at in the magazine “Canadian Golfer”, November, 1936, page 8 and 9.
