Art Nouveau sterling silver “Half-Bred Horses” trophy, made by Gorham Manufacturing Company of Providence, RI. The trophy is designed as a tyg (tig) a medieval shape of drinking vessel with three handles, in an overall flowing Art Nouveau form with flourishes of stylized leafy vines framing three panels. The trophy has the Gorham date cypher for 1892, the year the trophy was presented. The first panel depicts three horses and riders at full gallop. The second panel states: “The Walker Club Cup Presented By Hiram Walker & Sons * Limited” The third panel states: “For Half-Bred Horses That Have Never Won Public Money In An Open Race Or Otherwise To Be Ridden By Members Of The Toronto, Albany Reform, National, Granite, Victoria, Hamilton, and London Clubs Won by A.C. Osler Riding Laddie at the Woodbine Nov. 12. 1892.

He ventured into distilling whiskey as early as 1849 and overtime developed the very successful “Canadian Club” whiskey brand. |
