Hagenauer bronze sculpture of an African woman, made in Austria circa 1930. Karl Hagenauer (1898-1956) was the son of Carl Hagenauer (1872-1928) both celebrated sculptors and designers from Vienna, Austria. Karl’s work was inspired by North African masks and figures, drawing on a similar aesthetic as Pablo Picasso’s early Cubist painting. Impressed on the base: Hagenauer Wien WHW Handmade Made in Austria The WHW trademark stands for Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien, the Workshop of Hagenauer Vienna. 6” (15.2cm) high, the base is 4 1/4” (10.8cm) by 2 1/8” (5.4cm).
