Product Description

Antique 812 Fine Silver tea caddy, attributed to Hanau, Germany, pre-1888.  The caddy 

depicts a shepherdess and goat herder (both panels are repeated) in idyllic 18th century attire, framed within Louis XVI style banding.  

The tea caddy has punch marks on the bottom, including “13”, the mark for 13 loth, equivalent to 812 / 1000 fineness of silver.  Germany last used this system of marking in 1888, replacing it with the crescent moon and crown mark.

5 1/4” (13.4cm) high, 3 1/8” (8cm) square.
