Antique Austrian Silver Etrog Box

Austrian silver Etrog box, circa 1900.  The cushion shaped box rises from splayed bracket feet and is ornamented with a classically inspired frieze on the sides.  The finial/handle on the cover of the box is hinged.  The original key is intact and the lock is in working order.  The box has a gold washed interior, in very good condition.

Monogrammed on the cover with the letters “MN” super imposed.

The box is fully marked on the interior at the base and on the outside of the lid with the Goddess Diana in a 5 lobed circle.  The 3 at the name of her neck indicates 800 Fine Silver and the A at her chin indicates it was assayed in Vienna.  This punch mark was used circa 1886-1922.  The makers mark is H * P in a rectangle.
