Antique Satsuma Circular Box & Cover

Beautiful Satsuma circular box and cover, Meiji period, Japan (1868-1912).  The cover is hand painted and gilded with scenes of architecture and gardens in square panels, along with stylized floral sections in an overlapping collage fashion.  The figural finial is also a gourd with leaves.  The inside of the box is decorated as well, with the same tree motif on both the underside of the cover and at the inside bottom of the box.  Signed on the bottom.
