Antique Hanau 800 Fine silver jewel box. Exuberantly decorated in a Rococo manner, attributed to the Hanau silver firm of B. Neresheimer & Sohne, founded in 1893.
In the late 19th century in Germany, Hanau silversmiths were known for producing silver items from much earlier eras, freely referencing Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo styles in their work.
The hinged box is very much the style of fantastically elaborate work that is typical of Hanau silver. The original gilded interior is bright and in good condition.
The box is without monograms or presentation engraving.
3 5/8” (9.2cm) by 3 1/8” (8cm), 1 3/4” (4.5cm) high.
