Renaissance inspired solid brass box with cedar lining, ideal for a jewel box or tobacco products, Germany, early 20th century.  The exterior is styled like a 16th century strongbox, ornately decorated with putti and scrolling vines.

Made by Erhard & Sohne Co.,  established in 1844 by Gottlieb Erhard and his two sons in Schwabisch Gmund, near Stuttgart, Germany.  The company was a prolific maker of silver plated, brass and bronze decorative household items.
