Late Georgian era Sheffield silver plate wine bottle coasters, English, circa 1820-40. An elegant baluster shape with a gadroon border. The copper base metal is showing on the high points; what Sheffield enthusiasts refer to as “bleeding”. The pair are without monograms or presentation engravings. A charming pair ready for another century of service! The exterior rim to exterior rim measure approx. 6 1/8” (15.5cm) diameter and 2” (5.1cm) high. The interior diameter is approx. 5.25 (5 1/4) inches (13.3cm). $795 for the pair. Sheffield Plate, often called Old Sheffield Plate, is a historical material and technique created by fusing a thin sheet of sterling silver onto a base metal, usually copper.
