Monumental vintage sterling silver trophy for horsemanship, circa 1940s. A large presentation trophy such as this was likely a bespoke item. This piece bears the trademark of the silversmith company Old Newbury Crafters of Newburyport, Mass. The original gilded interior is intact. The inscription on the front reads:
The Vernon G. Cardy * Improvement Trophy Open To Junior Members Of The Horsemanship Club For Annual Competition Presented 1946
On the reverse the winners are listed for every year from 1946 to 1987.
15 3/4” (40cm) high, 15 1/2” (39.4cm) across the handles. 1802 grams $7500.
