Moser “Lady Hamilton Gold Encrusted” water goblets. This exquisitely detailed hand cut crystal pattern has a wide acid etched gold encrusted band. The pattern is inspired by the famed beauty Emma Hamilton, wife of British diplomat William Hamilton and the alleged mistress of Admiral Horatio Nelson. The pattern was conceived by the design department of Moser in 1934, then led by Heinrich Hussman (1899-1982) and has been a favourite going on 90 years. 7 1/2” (19cm) high, 4 1/4” (10.8cm) diameter at the rim. The history of Moser crystal starts in 1857 with the talented glass engraver Ludwig Moser (1833-1916) opening his own workshop in Karlovy Vary (in present day Czech Republic). By 1873 Moser is exhibiting at the Vienna World Fair. His fine workmanship is discovered by Emperor Franz Joseph I, who appoints him as his exclusive supplier of glass. In 1904 Moser is granted a warrant for the Austro-Hungarian Imperial Court. The appreciation of crowned royal heads of state appreciating the elegance and beauty of the workmanship continues in 1908 with Moser becoming the court supplier to Edward VII of England. Other royal patronages include the Sultan of Morocco Mohammed V, The Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the Maharaja of Travancore. Moser continues to win design awards to this day! |
