Coloured reproduction print of Fort Levis (Quebec) by Nicholas Hornyansky (1896-1965). Hornyansky was born in Budapest, Hungary, studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. He worked and exhibited for 9 years in Belgium, England and France, emigrating to Canada in 1929. Through the 1920s the focus of his work was in mastering the technical aspects of colour aquatint print making. Hornyansky was a member of the Ontario Society of Artists and an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Academy. He belonged to the Canadian Society of Graphic Art and the Society of Canadian Painters, Etchers and Engravers. He also taught at the Ontario College of Arts 1945-1958. Hornyansky’s work is held in the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto, ON), Tom Thomson Memorial (Owen Sound, ON), Sarnia Art Gallery (Sarnia, ON), the Archives and Collections Society, the National Gallery of Canada, the University of Guelph Gallery (Guelph, ON), the Musee Plantyn in Antwerp (Belgium), the National Print Collection at the Library of Congress, the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe and the Pennsylvania Museum of Art in Philadelphia. The original frame shows minor wear, consistent with age. 23” (58.4cm) by 20 1/4” (51.4cm) in the frame. $395. |
