Opulent Meissen “Gold Leaf/Golden Baroque” tea set, Germany, 20th century. The “X-Form” shape was created between 1844 and 1855 by Ernst August Leuteritz, X-Form being a reference to the original mould shape. Inspired by the Biedermeier period in Europe; simple in form and grand in execution! The gilding is all done by hand with 23 karat gold on the high relief of the ornaments, handles and edges. The third firing is what gives the gold a silky shimmer. Meissen refers to this finish as Gold Bronze. The set is comprised of a teapot, creamer, covered sugar, cake plate, 6 cups & 6 saucers plus 6 dessert plates; or, 22 pieces in total. Trademarked with the Meissen crossed sword mark, the entire set is in pristine condition. The teapot is 8” (20.3cm) high. The cake plate is 10 3/4” (27.3cm) diameter. The teacups are 2 3/4” (7cm) high, 3 7/8” (9.8cm) diameter at the rim, The saucers are 6” (15.3cm) diameter. The dessert plates are 7 1/2” (19cm) diameter. $6500 for the set.
