Art Deco French art pottery covered potpourri urns in mottled blues, made by Milet of Sevres, circa 1930s. The company was founded by Felix Optat Milet circa 1879, eventually taken over by his son, Paul Milet (1870-1950) who had also worked in Sevres and had an exhibition room at 25 rue de Paradis in Paris. The business continued with Paul’s son Henri at the healm, circa 1931. Stamped on the underside of both urns with the trademark used circa 1931-45: PM SEVRES MADE IN FRANCE,
The underside of one of the covers has a small chip, visible only from underneath. 5 1/2” (14cm) high, 3 1/4” (8.3cm) diameter. $695 for the pair, condition noted.
At the 1900 Universal Exhibition (1900 Paris Exhibition) he obtained a gold medal for his earthenware “of pleasant shapes, decorated by the most diverse processes, cloisonné enamels, enamels on gold spangles. In all these decorations, made from good drawings, Paul Milet discerningly uses the rich palette of enamels that he masters.” Review of the Society of Friends of the National Ceramic Museum |
