Product Description
Vintage 800 Fine Silver jewellery box, made in Italy, mid 20th century. The silversmith is Peruggia & C., active in Alessandria, Italy, mark registered in 1949 and still active in 1971. The box is styled in the manner of Baroque silver boxes of the early 18th century. Beautifully styled with raised and scrolled floral designs in between shell and pearl corners, with a fine gadroon / rope edging at the rim and base, on scrolled bracket feet. Thr box is topped off with an oval blue gemstone, likely sodalite. The hinged box is marked on the lip: 376AL (376 is the maker’s mark for Peruggia & C. and AL is the abbreviation for Alessandria) and 800, the grade of silver. The box is in excellent condition. 6 5/8” (16.8cm) by 5 1/4” (13.3cm), 3 1/4” (8.3cm) high. 623.8 grams.
