Ask About / Book Appointment - Rare Doulton Impasto Vases, Circa 1879
Please submit the form below to ask a question about Rare Doulton Impasto Vases, Circa 1879.
Rare Doulton Impasto vases, signed with the impressed signature of F.M. Collins (Mrs. Vale), dated 1879. Unfortunately Mrs. Collins worked for Doulton for only two years as she died in 1880, making her signed work rare. The baluster form vases are decorated with branches of apple blossoms, against a mottled green background.
The Impasto Ware line was one of the most artistic and unusual lines from the Lambeth Pottery. It is different from Faience in that the decoration was applied to the raw clay, causing the applied colour to thicken. This enabled the artist to build up the colour adding to the depth of the design.
10 1/2” (26.7cm) high, 4 1/2” (11.5cm) diameter, each.
$2200 for the pair.
