Product NameRoyal Copenhagen Flora Danica Fruit Plates
Product Description

Royal Copenhagen “Flora Danica” reticulated rim luncheon plates.  This stunning set of 12 different fruit and berry plates are hand painted and gilded on porcelain, ranging in age from 1961 to 1964.

The pattern originates with the command of King Frederik V of Denmark to catalogue all the plants of the kingdom, a task that took from 1752 to 1761.   The first edition had 60 copper prints, growing over 122 years to 3240 different motifs of plants, flowers and fruit.  The engraved botanical images were first used as inspiration for decoration on porcelain on a dinner service commissioned as a gift to the Russian Empress, Catherine II in 1790.  The service, with 100 place settings, took 12 years to complete (1802) and was never sent to Russia, as Catherine II died in 1796.

Flora Danica is regarded as a Danish cultural treasure, both as a tribute to the natural world of Denmark and the exquisite design and craftsmanship of Royal Copenhagen.

8 of the plates are in perfect condition and 4 have the tiniest nicks on the rim. The photo with the * are the four that are imperfect.
