Royal Crown Derby hand painted and signed architectural scene of Haddon Hall * on a free standing plaque.  Signed by W.E.J. (William Edward) Dean, a prolific Derby painter known primarily for marine and landscape scenes.  Dean was born in Derby, studied at the Derby School of Art and apprenticed at Osmaston Road factory.  He was employed by Royal Crown Derby by the late 1890s, working up until shortly before his death in 1956.  This handsome piece has the Royal Crown Derby date cypher for 1932.

5 5/8” (14.3cm) by 4 1/4” (10.8cm), 1 1/2” (3.9cm) deep.

* Haddon Hall is a medieval manor house in Derbyshire.  The origins of the Hall are in the 11th century, with later additions in the 13th and 17th centuries, mostly in the Tudor style.
