Art Deco sterling silver Ladies Singles tennis trophy, made by S. Kirk & Son Co. for the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club of Owings Mills, Maryland *. The trophy is stamped S. Kirk & Son Co. with the trademark used 1896-1924. The trophy has the original presentation engraving, on one side only: GREEN SPRING VALLEY HUNT CLUB CHALLENGE CUP WON BY 1922 PENELOPE - WEDDELL - ANDERSON 1923 REBECCA - WHITE - BURGWIN 1924 1925 ELEANOR - COTTMAN 1926 ELEANOR - COTTMAN 1927 ELEANOR - COTTMAN
The trophy is identified on the pedestal base: LADIES SINGLES On the underside of the base: TO BE WON THREE TIMES Suggesting that Eleanor Cottman became the owner of the trophy on her three-peat victory. 13 1/2” (33.3cm) high, 6 3/4” (17.2cm) diameter, 12 1/2” (31.8cm) across the handles. 1399.4 grams.
