Sterling silver berry set, produced for Tiffany & Co. of New York, NY., circa 1868.
The set is comprised of 2 berry spoons with shell form bowls and a sugar sifting ladle, in sterling silver and partial gilt, all engraved G in an Old English font. The original felt and silk lined presentation box has the date 1868 gilded on the cover.
The serving pieces are both trademarked:
J.P. Patent 1867 Tiffany & Co. Sterling
J.P. is the trademark for John Polhamus of New York who produced flatware for Tiffany from 1850-69. Tiffany did not start producing their own flatware until about 1870.
The spoons are 8 1/2” (21.6cm) long.
The sugar sifter is 7” (17.8cm) long.
The box is 12” (30.5cm) by 5 1/4”(13.4cm).
The cover of the box is slightly domed, 2” (5cm) high.
