Victorian papier mache tea caddy, made in England, circa 1850.  The box is hand painted with flowers and multi-colour ivy leaves, inset with mother-of-pearl inlay on black lacquer.  An unusual feature of the cover is the painting on the mother-of-pearl flowers, making them both colourful and shimmery.  The box was intended as a tea caddy (it still has the original foil lining) but could easily be converted to a jewellery box for your Victoriana.  The box is in good condition with minor wear only; consistent with age and use.
