Victorian Silver Plate Biscuit Barrel, From John Harrison & Sons, Circa 1880-1900

Victorian silver plate biscuit barrel, from John Harrison & Sons of Sheffield, England, circa 1880-1900.

This unusual biscuit barrel is decorated in high relief with a repeating scene of a man at rest while the women of the household toil behind him.  The cover is another scene of two men playing a board game (perhaps checkers) while a woman with a babe in arms looks on.

The oval biscuit barrel is raised on a graduated plinth supported by bun feet.

6 5/8” (16.8cm) by 7 7/8” (20cm) at the base, 5 3/4” (14.5cm) high.
