Victorian sterling silver goblet, made in England for Canadian presentation. Hallmarks for London 1869. The silversmith is Alfred Ivory who first registered his mark in 1861. The cup has a repousse maple leaf frieze and a bead trim around the node of the stem and the pedestal base. The cup has presentation engravings; on one side:
An engraved depiction of the Order of Bath chain with the motto “Tria Juncta In Uno”, Latin for “Three joined in one”. This is the motto for The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, and is associated with British Army insignia.
On the reverse:
Metropolitan Rifle Association Governor General’s Prize Won By Sergt. Hugh Wilkinson G. T. Rifles 1870
6 1/4” (16cm) high, 3 3/4” (9.5cm) diameter at the rim. $2900.
