Product Description

Victorian sterling silver taper stick, fully hallmarked for London 1887.  

A taper stick is a small scale candlestick, usually under 5”.  They were not used to give light, but for melting wax to seal letters or lighting cigars.  They were made as single items and pairs are rare.  This taper stick is a Georgian style of the 1760s with a square base and pronounced shell corners.

Complete with the original and fully hallmarked shell cornice bobeche.  The makers mark JB, is either that of Jane Brownett or Henry Wilkinson & Co. (John Brashier).

4 3/4” (12cm) high, 2 5/8” (6.6cm) square base.
