Highly ornamented 800 Fine Silver basket, from the silversmiths Weinranck & Schmidt of Hanau, Germany, circa 1880-1900.  Identified by W.S. over H. in a heart cartouche, partially rubbed.  In the tradition of Hanau silversmiths, the basket is reminiscent of much earlier styles, in this case the basket emulates Meissen porcelain baskets of the 18th century.  The basket is clearly impressed “Germany”, indicating that it was intended for export to an English speaking marker, likely the United Kingdom.

The reticulated basket is decorated with festooned garlands of flowers and ribbons and bows, on a quatrefoil lobed body rising from a pedestal foot.  The interior is gold washed, partially worn.  

The handle is monogrammed “D” and the base is engraved “SARAK 1922”.

7 1/2” (19cm) high, 12 3/4” (32.4cm) high to the top of the handle,
