Product Description
Victorian era gilt metal epergne with opalescent glass bowls. The highly decorated frame features graceful scrolling arms and is raised on four mask and claw feet. The frame has minor wear to the gilding, producing a rich, warm glow. The three opalescent glass bowls are in good condition, with very minor sliver chips on two of the three bowls. The frame is trademarked with a double headed eagle and the letters WBC over CHS. This is the trademark for Wenzel Bachmann & Co., of Vienna, Austria. The company was established circa 1842 by Wenzel Bachmann (1817-1877) and known mostly for producing tableware and decorative items in silver plate or gilt metal. The company was taken over by Berndorfer Metallwaren-Fabrik Arthur Krupp A.G. in 1918 but continued to use the Bachmann trademark until at least 1927. The double headed eagle signifies that WBC had a Royal / Imperial Warrant from the Austrian Imperial Family, used until 1918. 15” (38.1cm) high, 20” (50.8cm) total width, 8 1/2” (21.5cm) depth at the base, The bowls only are 8 3/8” (21.3cm) diameter, 2 1/2” (6.4cm) high.
