George V sterling silver Christening cup, hallmarked London 1925. From the multi-generational silversmith family of William Comyns & Sons Ltd. (Charles & Richard Comyns), established by William Comyns circa 1858/9. The firm remained in family control until 1953 when it was sold to Bernard Copping. This handsome Christening cup is styled in the manner of an 18th century baluster shaped tankard, with a graceful S scroll handle. The cup is engraved: John Charles Ogilvie 25 / 7 / 1925 The gauge of the silver is substantial and the engraving could be buffed off for a new presentation engraving. 3 3/4” (9.5cm) high.
