Hand painted and hand gilded.  

The front is decorated with cameo bust portraits of ladies in 18th century court dress over panels of couples painted in an idealized romantic pastoral style.  The reverse is decorated with roses arranged in a bouquet over panels of roses and greenery.

There is minor loss to the gilding, appropriate to age and use.
