Sevres hand painted and gilded portrait cabinet plate.  French 19th century.

The portrait is of Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult (1769-1851), 1st Duke of Dalmatia.

Named “Marshal of the Empire” on May 19, 1804, often referred to as Marshal Soult.

Soult is one of only six officers in French history to receive the distinction of Marshal General of France, and the only General given the title in post-revolution France.
