Kosta Boda Spin Bowl, Designed by Bertil Vallien

Product Details

Kosta Boda art glass bowl, from the “Spin” series, designed circa 1986 by Bertil Vallien * for Kosta Boda Glass of Sweden.  The  signature design is a thin, continuous spiralling thread of black glass culminating in a solid black dot on a clear body.  The design was produced in various sizes of vases and bowls.

5 1/4” (13.3cm)high, 7 1/4” (18.4cm) diameter.

* Bertil Vallien (born 1938) studied in the ceramics department at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm starting his education in 1955.  Upon graduation he worked briefly for a small ceramics factory in Los Angeles, California, before returning to Sweden.  He worked briefly at both Gustavsberg and Rorstrand but was increasingly drawn to working in glass.  By 1963 he was designing and working at the Afors factory for Kosta Boda.

Bertil Vallien married fellow glass artist Ulrica Hyndman in 1963.  Ulrica Hydman-Vallien (1938-2018) was a glass artist / blower / designer in her own right.
