This charming bronze study of a whippet playing with a ball at her feet is from the atelier of the French sculptor Pierre-Jules Mene (1810-1879).  Made in France, circa 1870.  This smaller study was adapted from Mene’s larger sculpture “Jiji et Giselle” from 1846.

The attention to detail is very fine, down to the quality of the musculature and hair, the refinement of the claws and facial expression and the representation of the carpet that she is playing on.  A true beauty!
